INTRO TO THE SCIENCE OF READING
Understanding what is meant by the "Science of Reading" is an important first step for every educator who wants to ensure all students learn to read. In this one hour introduction, we will focus on how the brain learns to read, and what type of instruction matches the science.

Scoop on Suffixes
Suffixes are important elements of the English language yet all too often instruction in this area is minimal. Suffix instruction empowers students in both reading and spelling. This presentation will provide you with “the scoop” on suffixes by including the importance of suffix instruction, definition of a suffix, what suffixes may do, types of suffixes, suffix rules and application, and morphological connections. Suffix instruction is beneficial for all students. For the struggling student, it is essential.

Creating stronger readers with syllable instruction
Have you ever had students come to you with basic phonogram knowledge yet struggle with reading? Such students may benefit from direct instruction on syllables and how they work in English. This course provides an understanding of the importance of syllable instruction, how to begin SI, an exploration of syllable patterns & division rules, as well as an opportunity for practice.
